During treatment, a whitening gel is applied to the teeth. A high intensity blue LED light is then focused on the teeth, activating and enhancing the whitening effect of the gel. As the gel works, stains and discolorations are oxidized and removed. Treatment takes 30 minutes. This light technology has been specially developed for in-office teeth whitening. It does not produce heat or ultraviolet rays, making it a very safe procedure. This procedure has been approved by the FDA as safe and effective. Because treatment merely removes stains on the surface of the teeth, it is considered a cosmetic, not dental procedure. Treatment will not change the structure of the teeth or cause damage to the enamel. It will not harm fillings, crowns, bridges, bondings, veneers or other dental work. Results can be maintained by minimizing the use of products that cause staining. These include coffee, tea, cola soda, red wine and tobacco.
